Back when we were hunters and gatherers life was so unkind
People lived and people died based on what they could find
Someone found that a sharpened stick could make a better hunter out of men
Sometimes I wish we had never evolved and we could start all over again

So e turned to agriculture to satisfy the people’s needs
Figured out how to work the land with just a plow and a couple of seeds
We took the land from Mother Nature and determined where the rivers bend

For the most part everybody lived happily side by side
But there were always certain people who were never really satisfied
They sough t to conquer and build an empire until it didn’t have an end

We built the cities and the factories that take us to the present day
We built the roads that surround our towns while the countryside is going away
We made the smog that will choke the world and it’s really just a matter of when
Sometimes I wish we had never evolved and we could start all over again

When we tried to turn to government to try and keep the worst at bay
The rich and powerful simply laughed and said “we’ll do what we do anyway”
They just amass more wealth and power and they do it just because they can
Sometimes I wish we had never evolved and we could start all over again

When I look into the future I’m afraid of what I might see
People killing off everybody till the end of all humanity
We’ll leave behind a lifeless planet that nobody but God can mend
